It is surely embarrassing for Apple that a 3rd party developer can write an app that will download and upload from the iDisk far faster than their own Finder.
If I'm going to iDisk, I use Transmit. Otherwise it's not worth it.
I'm in no hurry. Would rather not buy Transmit. iDisk is incredibly slow, but no skin off my back (I don't use it too much). Interesting to learn that it is the application, and not something inherently sluggish on the host end.

Hmmm..., well, you don't mention which OS you are running, but I'll assume OS X, so if that is the case, the OS should recognixe the drive. I only say this because I replaced a DVD-ROM in a Pismo Powerbook with the Combo drive that comes in an iBook, and the OS recognized the drive fine. The optical drives in a tower all share the same connectors on newer machines, but I can't speak towards an 450 AGP because I never owned one. I've switched several drives in a G4 733 Digital Audio, and never had any problems. The only thing I would suggest is after installation, you make sure to download the latest Apple firmware for the Pioneer '05 model.

I still don't understand making the effort in keeping a reverse switchers, let them make the mistake. The joy in seeing them suffer with Windows is well worth it.
But at least they'll have the games to make them happy about their endless suffering.

The U.S. Military has been using Apple Computers for years. I know for a fact they were crucial in the development of RFID tracking used in logistics. They were also more difficult to hack into and required less IT support to maintain them in the field.
I was more referring to mobile devices, but you're right. They're still not anywhere near as widespread as Windows machines (at least in the branches I interact with), but I guess that's the case pretty much everywhere.

So, I picked one up the other day. Trying to find the "sweet spot" is really annoying. I'm assuming your supposed to keep adjusting the 3DS and your head until you don't see two images anymore, and that's the so-called sweet spot?
Honestly, I don't really see that much of a difference. There's a little more depth to with 3D effect (but it's not in your face like a 3D ride at Disney World or like Avatar where stuff was floating in the air). The AR games are neat except they require a cardboard card (Really Nintendo? Wasn't this idea a huge failure with Animal Crossing e-Reader on the GameCube?)
Pilotwings is also pretty terrible. I can't wait for the Virtual Console to launch. I'm glad Super Mario Land will be a launch title. Hopefully, Nintendo will iron out the 3DS kinks in time.

Maybe I'm reading the letter wrong or perhaps just missing the point but it seems to me that Apple isn't claiming either the term "podcast ready" or "mypodder" but actually trying to stop Infostructure Solutions Inc from registering them as trademarks.
If Infostructure Solutions are successful in their application they'd be able to stop Apple and anybody else for that matter from using either of terms (or anything closely related). The letter makes it clear it doesn't object to the use of Podcast Ready as the company's name just to it's application to trademark the name.
It seems to me that Apple are the good guys here for once, slapping down a company that is trying to trademark terms that are already in use albeit in a niche market!

I really don't think it's an iPad. Given how it appears to be a bright and sunny day and how much light can be seen reflecting off of most other surfaces, the "iPad's" surface seems too matte.

Explain how it's adding unpredictability if we're being told what song to buy, to get to No.1? By my definition that's the complete opposite of unpredictable.
If it's "just some fun" then that's a different story...but it's not. It's about people getting all whinny because they think Simon Cowell is taking over the music industry, and leading us like sheep to make his song's No.1. If you don't like the damn XFactor songs then quite rightly don't buy them! Buy what you want to become No.1. But when when people deliberately try and manipulate the results, thinking it will "teach that man a lesson", it becomes less about the music and more about some stupid battle with Simon Cowell!
The song I want to see at No.1 is the song that I like most at that particular time, not the song that I think will give the best metaphorical finger to Mr. Cowell.
I would like to know if all these people swarming to buy the RAtM track actually care about Christmas number 1's. I wonder if anyone does?

Why anyone would be surprised by this move is beyond me. It makes sense for all parties involved.
Apple makes $4 on each product sold, and manufacturers are able to add a feature that most people have the ability to actually use and will want.
It's a win-win.

Apple is really disgusting me with this $#*(%&*( behavior. They really need to completely reevaluate their criteria and make it CRYSTAL EFFING CLEAR what IS and was IS NOT acceptable and then stand by it. None of this 'reject Google Voice because it duplicates functionality' and then 'approve the Opera web browser'. Reject an APP because it 'ridicules public figures' and then plead that the author to resubmit it once he's awarded a Pulitzer...
